Term 2 Week 2
Weekly 5 with Leadership
Gullarn ngheeree - Welcome to this beautiful place,
This week our school paused to reflect on April 25, to pay our deepest respects to all service men and women in the armed forces past and current for their ministry as peacekeepers in our global community. To hear some of our children share with me their connection to a family member whose medals they proudly wore to the march, through to conversations around red and purple poppies and the significance of rosemary to these days of commemoration - these times that connect our children to events of significance within our national identity, have an enduring and impactful effect on developing these citizens of tomorrow, in an ever-changing and complex world. Peace in our world is a prayer that unites us, it truly does begin with the peaceful encounters in our day, from the model we set with our children (particularly on the ‘messy’ days), to simple acts of kindness and welcome, to our connectedness (and our boundaries) in the digital world.
Parenting is the most precious blessing in our lives. My daughter, Rachael, has traveled home for a week. Last night she rummaged through one of her ‘memory boxes’ and we relived some of the highlights (a poem from her Prom partner) of her teenage years, to some of the more painful memories of times when grey clouds loomed over her journey. Like so many others, as I parented my children, I reached out to the ‘experts’, to increase my toolbag of strategies to raise my children.
“It takes a village to raise a child!” The village that is St Francis Catholic Primary has, on behalf of our parents, engaged with CatholicCare. This agency offers incredible support to families through 1-2-3 Magic and Emotion Coaching workshops. These workshops will be held at St Francis School on three consecutive Wednesdays from May 29 to June 12. “This evidence-based program for parents of children aged 2-12 years is delivered by experienced practitioners over 3 x 2 hour sessions. In a supportive, small group setting, practitioners offer practical approaches on how, as adults, we manage our emotional responses, better understand our child’s needs, and build stronger, more supportive, happier family relationships”.
More information regarding the course is below, I strongly encourage any parent or carer to consider attending - to affirm, learn, and build a village of collaborative support.
God’s blessings on your weekend!

Gullarn gnheereE – Welcome to this beautiful place,
This Sunday, the 28th of April, is the feast day of St Peter Chanel. Today St Francis Catholic Primary celebrates this Feast Day in two ways.
1. Prep to Year 2 celebrate this morning with a prayer celebration in our very own St Peter Chanel Church on our school site.
2. This afternoon, Year 3 to 6 will participate in a Feast Day Mass with Year 4A hosting this celebration.
Peter Chanel was born in France in 1803, 221 years ago. When Peter Chanel was young he always knew he wanted to serve God. He became a missionary and traveled all over the world to spread God’s love.
Peter Chanel loved the ocean and the South Pacific. The South Pacific is made up of beautiful tropical islands. There are thousands of islands in the South Pacific! Peter Chanel loved these islands so much, he became a Marist priest and went to the South Pacific to teach the people about Jesus and spread God’s love.
St Peter Chanel was known for his patience and courage, gentleness, kindness and his deep love for God.
Ever-present God,
you long to be close to us,
just as you were constantly close to your loving servant Saint Peter Chanel.
We pray that as we live a life in service of others you fill us with courage,
patience and kindness and surround us with your loving protection always.
This we pray in Jesus' name.
Amen.
Pax et Bonum - peace and all goodness,
Libby
