Weekly 5 with Leadership
2024 Year of Active Service
Welcome to a new and exciting school year at St Francis Catholic Primary School. Welcome to new families and those who are returning. As we begin new year, we look to our school vision for guidance:
Inspired by our Franciscan values of peace, love and acceptance, with Christ at our Centre, we encourage resilience, participation, diversity, a sense of belonging and a love of life-long learning.
Franciscan values are at the heart of our school. They are the driving force in all we do. Core values that keep Christ at our centre:
- Dignity of the human person
- Inclusiveness
- Peace-making
- Reconciliation and healing
- Respect and Care for creation
- Simplicity
Love is at the centre of everything we do, and we acknowledge every person, every creature, as the embodiment of God. The untold goodness that each person carries because they are made in the image of God, who is love.
Elizabeth Wilson (APRE 2024)

Parent Information Videos
To allow all families to be informed, our teachers have uploaded a video recording of their parent information for each class. These videos will be uploaded to Class Seesaw and an accompanying term overview will be emailed today, Friday 2nd February.

Years 3 and 5 NAPLAN Weeks 8/9 Term 1
Australian students in years 3, 5, 7, and 9 sit their NAPLAN tests from the 13th-20th March.
Year 3 Writing is undertaken with pencil and paper. All other tests are done on school Chromebooks. Students will prepare in class in the weeks leading up to the tests - within their regular learning tasks.
Parents are encouraged to sit with their Year 3/5 children on an iPad/laptop/computer and become familiar with the Public Demonstration site, linked below.
STEPS: Select the year level and one of the five practice tests. Keep clicking 'next' and select 'yes' that you are 'an example test student'. This allows students to become familiar with how the NAPLAN site looks. When students undertake NAPLAN online, they do so within a lockdown browser. This prevents 'googling' solutions.

Paint the Port Competition
Celebrate Australia Primary Art Competition
At the end of term 4 last year all St Francis Catholic Primary students entered the Celebrate Australia Primary Art Competition. This art competition has been run by the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery for the last 18 years. It requires students to create an A4 sized artwork displaying what Australia mean to them. There were entries displaying Australia’s unique flora and fauna, our famous landmarks and icons, and our recreational activities and lifestyles.
The winners were announced on Australia Day during Gladstone Regional Council’s Australia Day event at Tannum Sands Esplanade.
Congratulations to our six budding artists and prize winners:
Ashton Cook
Noah Robinson
Piper McCauley
Caroline Brooks
Adele Codrington
After multiple exhibitions at Gladstone Regional Council venues throughout the year, starting at our Regional Gallery, the prize winners artworks then tour to Saiki City, Japan for a display in the Gladstone Region's Sister City. Each entry is also digitised and stored in the Gallery and Museum's digital vault.
Please see Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum’s website for the travelling exhibition dates and locations for 2024.
Attendance Matters
In honouring each child’s contributions to learning and the importance for our children to experience success as a learner, daily attendance (unless sick) is critical.
