Weekly 5 With Leadership

Gullarn ngheeree - Welcome to this beautiful place,

With our Year 5 student leadership speeches and our Celebration Assembly this week, it has been an incredible privilege to listen to the voices in our community as we reflect on our 2024 school year.  Our ‘Celebration Stars’ had a skip in their step as they were proudly acknowledged for their sparkle and growth.  The genuine love for our students was tangible in the words of our class teachers as they shared special insight into our students’ journey of learning and growth.

This week I share with you the heartfelt words from our Year 5 students’ nominations for leadership roles for 2025.  How blessed we are!

  • Being a captain means inspiring the best in people and leading everyone to be the best versions of themselves.
  • I am inclusive, I am open to new ideas and tasks.
  • I’m determined to get my work done first time, every time.
  • This is only my second year at St Francis but I feel like I belong, and I love that!
  • Every school is different because of the people that make it unique.
  • The best things about St Francis are how nice all the teachers are and the learning which can be hard and easy at the same time.
  • I persevere with everything and keep trying even when things are hard.
  • I value my strengths which are love, appreciation of beauty and excellence, forgiveness, kindness and humour.
  • I have dreamed of being house captain since I was in Prep!
  • When I was seven years old I asked for a job at a plant nursery and cafe.  That’s where I was taught responsibility and how to serve others.
  • I believe that I can help people do their greatest things, by being the most awesome, encouraging leader that there is!
  • St Francis feels like home, warm and cosy.
  • I will inspire others and be supportive, helping others to discover their potential.
  • Thanks to St Francis teachers and ESO’s for the wonderful education we have. Every individual is grateful, kind, compassionate, loving and unique.
  • St Francis has done so much for me so I would now like to give back by being a leader.
  • I will keep trying under the hardest circumstances, showing the young students what to do right and will help those who need help.
  • I am very respectful and responsible, when I have made a mistake I try to learn from it.
  • When I was younger I looked up to the older kids being leaders, I thought they were very cool.  I wanted to be just like them.
  • I am creative and have new ideas every day and I will be open to the ideas of others.
  • I have been going to this school since Prep and even though, like everyone else, I have made a few mistakes, going to St Francis is the best thing that has ever happened to me.
  • One of my strengths is love!

God’s blessings upon your weekend,

PAX et bonum - Peace and all goodness,

Meredith Grove
(Principal 2024)

From the Sports' Desk: Swimming Carnival

On Wednesday 20th November, all students (unless teachers are informed otherwise) will travel at 8:30 am on the buses to the Gladstone Aquatic Centre.

Students are to wear bathers under their sports uniform, crocs/thongs and school hat.  Please be mindful of the environment and pool facilities if wearing any house-coloured accessories.

Please pack plenty of nutritious food, lots of cold water, sunscreen, a towel and a positive mindset. The canteen will be available for light refreshments. Students are to remain with their teacher/class group/house.

After the Under 8s swim, they will rotate through Splashzone and fun activities that teachers have prepared.

9-12-year-olds must remain in their houses in the grandstand between races.  Races will not wait for them if they miss marshaling.

At 12 noon, the Under 8s will return to school.  At 1 pm, the seniors will depart on the bus for school. Please inform class teachers if your children leave with you or with nominated adults.

Good luck. Let's aim for 100% attendance this year!!! Every swimmer earns a point for their house, whether it is novelty, 10m 25m or 50m!
