Weekly 5 with Leadership
From Libby's Desk: APRE
On Friday 22 February, our Year 5 and 6 students gathered to participate in their Leadership Day Retreat. This retreat is always special for our present and emerging leaders. Our focus, this year, was ‘social action and justice.’ How can we as a school care for our common home.
We gathered and began this wonderful day with our morning circle which focused on leadership virtues. Throughout the day, students participated in workshops centred around establishing and maintaining positive relationships, how to be cybersafe in a digital world, team building activities and the Catholic Social Teaching: caring for the common home as well as justice for the poor.
How can St Francis Catholic Primary School care for our common home?
The earth is part of God’s creation. It is so important we respect and appreciate God’s creation. We all have a responsibility to take care of the world we live in; our environment and people. Our changing environment prompts us to stop and think about how we live on our planet. Pope Francis, through his encyclical, Laudato Si’ calls us to join as one and act.
What is justice for the poor and how, as a school can we help those in need?
Caring for those who are suffering some form of poverty (which does not always relate to wealth) is everyone’s responsibility. ‘Preferential care should be shown to vulnerable and marginalised people, whose needs and rights are given special attention in God’s eyes’ (Caritas 2024).
Our St Francis leaders joined together, with the guidance of our Mission Explorers, and began developing our own social action and justice plan of what we can do to care for our local environment as well as the people are in need.
To conclude the Leadership Retreat, Father Andrew, our Parish Priest conducted a pastoral session with a focus on connecting with Jesus and Scripture. Students were invited to share their insights and experiences from their time here at St Francis.
It was a blessing to witness the personal growth and development with our young leaders.

Boys and Girls 10-12 years Port Curtis Football (soccer) nominations are due 15th March at 9am to Mrs Linforth. No late nominations will be accepted. If successful in representing St Francis at the trials, parents are responsible for transporting their child to and from the event.
Email Kylie_linforth@rok.catholic.edu.au with student name, date of birth, years of experience and preferred positions.
Parent-Teacher Conversations: Week 9
Twice each year, teachers and parents meet in the school hall to have conversations about student progress. These meetings take place after school and are booked through Parent Lounge. These meetings have 15-minute timeslots. If more time is required, please don't hesitate to arrange with the class teacher on another day.
The focus on these conversations not only includes goal setting and progress to date, but it is also an opportunity for teachers to find out individual ways to help the learners in their class.
Please follow the link below to book. Bookings open Monday 4th March and close Friday 15th March.
If you are not yet able to access Parent Lounge, please contact Mel in the front office at info@sftsrok.catholic.edu.au

Everyone is super excited for tonight's first ever school disco!
Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers for the night, we now have plenty of supervision.
Only those children who may need a parent present with them should have one. Our disco is intended for our students only due to our health and safety obligations. We will have a sign in/out system in place for entry/exit. Please make sure you sign your child in when you arrive and out again when you collect them to go home.
Thank you for your understanding.

Attendance Matters
In honouring each child’s contributions to learning and the importance for our children to experience success as a learner, daily attendance is critical, unless they are sick.
